The Inaugural Croke Park Classic is just around the corner and is sure to be one of the main attractions for many American Football fans this Summer. On 30th August, University of Central Florida (UCF) will take on Penn State in the iconic GAA grounds of Croke Park. Excited would be an understatement!

Croke Park Classic

Football fever has truly reached the Irish shores as two teams will battle it out for the Dan Rooney Trophy this August. The season opener is expected to be the first in a three game series and will be the first time either team has played outside the United States. The last college football game hosted in Croke Park was in 1996, so we’re due another thrilling game this side of the Atlantic. The in-form UCF completed their most successful season last year winning the American Athletics Conference and the Tostitos Festival Bowl, but they have a very tough side in Penn State to overcome this August.

Croke Park Classic Dublin 2014One thing us Irish and the Americans have in common is, we know how to celebrate! Win, lose or draw, heck even before the game starts, the celebrations in Dublin City will be something else! Friday evening sees the traditional Pep Rally grace the streets surrounding Dublin Castle. Football fans, cheer leaders, teams and coaches turn out to show their college pride and colours and party the night away! Saturday 30th August is game day and you can join the tailgate party in Temple Bar for food, drink and craic! Croke Park has hosted the most thrilling GAA games throughout the years but this game is shaping up to be a memorable one! For all you travelling supporters who might still have some energy left, make sure to take in a live GAA match of your own. The All Ireland Semi Finals will be decided on the Sunday and if you don’t know already, they’re a pretty big deal!

There is plenty of B&B accommodation Dublin, but make sure to book soon as this is a sporting weekend of epic proportions! So here’s hoping to a weekend of hard hits, hail Mary’s and the occasional fumble!
